Buying toys for your children or grandchildren in the UK is straight forward as we all know where to go. There’s Early Learning Centre for educational, Woolworths, Argos and don’t get me started on what is available online. When you are looking to buy a home in Spain, you are so preoccupied with furniture, eating out and so on that you don’t give Christmas and birthdays a thought until it comes around.
So where can you buy toys for kids?
Well, there’s El Corte Ingles department store which usually has an extensive toy range. This is usually divided into boys and girls toys, a split which is becoming less marked in the UK. The supermarkets, depending on their size will also have a toy section. Try the following:

These shops will stock all the latest in toys and the familiar brands such as Barbie, Bratz etc. They are also good for DVDs which tend to be cheaper than in the UK and have English in the language selection. If you are after something a bit more conventionally educational than check out Imaginarium www.imaginarium.es. They also have some children’s books which can be used for learners of Spanish adults and children alike. For a much greater choice in books go to Fnac in La Cañada in Marbella www.fnac.es and El Corte Ingles. For English books try Book World España www.bookworldespana.com. They have stores in San Pedro, Puerto Banus and Guadalmina.
You will also notice that instead of huge chains, every town will have at least one traditional toy shop, a bit like the ones that we used to have. These are very separated in terms of gender with a marked distinction between boys’ toys and girls’ toys.
